Tinea fungus is the parasite responsible for ringworm and depending on the localization of the disease the fungus will be named: tinea corporis if it affects the body, tinea capitis if it affects the scalp, tinea curis if it affects the groin (affection also known as jock itch), and tinea pedis if it affects the foot (affection also known as athlete's foot).
