Acid Reflux Disease Can Be A Serious Problem If Not Treated.

Acid Reflux:

Acid reflux can be caused by any number of things, but it's usually brought on by two things: stress and poor diet. Stress of any kind can cause your body to react in strange ways, and one of those reactions is an increase in the production of digestive acids. Acid reflux / Gerd should never be treated lightly and without the advice of your doctor. Acid reflux has become epidemic in the world today. Many people who have relied on drugs to treat this condition in the past are realizing that drugs are far too expensive and have myriad harmful side effects.

Acid reflux is a common problem, and is thought to occur in 4 of patients presenting to ENT clinics. A recent study of reflux and voice disorders suggests that up to 55% of patients with hoarseness (dysphonia) have laryngopharyngeal reflux. Acid reflux is caused by acidic stomach juices, or food and fluids, that are pushed back up into the esophagus. Too much reflux can cause the stomach acid to burn the esophagus and can lead to serious problems. Acid reflux from the stomach can trigger croup .

Acid reflux has been implicated in sudden infant death syndrome. Many pulmonologists routinely try acid suppression in cases of atypical asthma. Acid reflux treatment involves different methods. First, start the treatment by changing your diet. Acid reflux is also known as heartburn is extremely uncomfortable to all those who suffer. It is a condition where gastric juices containing acid travel back from the stomach into the esophagus.

GERD can sometimes (but certainly not more than half of the time) worsen asthma. GERD is suspected when these measures don't resolve the symptoms, or if the child has other associated symptoms, typically lack of weight gain, bleeding or respiratory problems. In those patients, diagnostic procedures or more aggressive therapies may be needed. GERD also may be confidently diagnosed when episodes of heartburn correlate with acid reflux as shown by acid testing.

Stomach acids and/or food may be inhaled into the lungs. The lungs provide a warm, moist environment. Stomach acid is also essential for preventing the growth of bacteria and yeast in your stomach. So it's no wonder that curbing acid with drugs can lead to problems. Stomach bloating is a major cause of reflux Researchers have found the Hpylori bacterium is responsible for ulcers and has also been linked to colon cancer. The medical answer to destroy the bacterium is a two week course of pharmaceutical antibiotics .

Esophagitis can occur as a result of too much stomach acid in the esophagus. Esophagitis may cause esophageal bleeding or ulcers. Esophagitis can be quite painful and can reduce the desire to eat. Severe esophagitis can lead to bleeding from the inflamed portion of the esophagus. Esophageal ph monitoring may not be available in some areas. Furthermore, the test is time consuming, and it can be inconvenient or troublesome for the patient.

Gastroesophageal reflux, or spitting up, is a common problem in infants and children and usually begins in the first weeks of life. Almost half of all infants have symptoms of reflux two or more times each day. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) happens when a muscle at the end of your esophagus does not close properly. This allows stomach contents to leak back, or reflux, into the esophagus and irritate it.
